METALFORCE
Hi Sergei! Hello, Vadim!
To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by The Call of the Sea. This is your debut job? Not really, the debut album is called BLOODY JUSTICE COMES... from 1996, and before that 3 demo recordings were released.
Despite your Slavic surnames, your soul is attached to the Baltic, isn’t it? Thats right. We all grew up in Estonia. All our childhood and youth were spent on the shores of the Baltic, we love the sea. The sea carries great power, attracts the eye, it can be calm and even like a mirror for many miles, and sometimes it hits the coastal rocks with its waves and makes a furious noise, piercing you with the salty wind... Feeling all this, we decided to pay tribute and express these feelings in our music.
Describe your music in a few sentences so that our readers can somehow imagine it. I call it Melodic and Brutal Death Metal. Although this is not so important, the meaning of the music is important.
How do you assess the success of your album? Unlike the first one, there is a very noticeable difference in both sound and coherence, but not in essence. It received very good reviews, and I will say, without a false pride: THERE WERE NO BAD RANKS! :))
What is the reaction to “The Call Of The Sea” from lands more distant than the Baltic states and the CIS? Still the same) Thanks to this album, we signed a contract with MOREHATE production in Moscow, who sold our album, and also signed a contract with DWELL records in Hollywood, where two of our songs were released in tribute albums, where the producer was Andy La Rocque, the band’s guitarist King Diamond, these songs are also featured on the bonus tracks on the CD -THE CALL OF THE SEA-. Also, POSTMORTEM was included in numerous compilations around the world.
The composition “Midnight Execution” seemed to me somewhat trendy, although bold. How did Christianity fall out of favor with you? I don’t know, I don’t think so, MIDNIGHT EXECUTION is one of our fans’ favorites... Listen to it once more and you will hear it differently, it’s quite a complex and diverse thing. We are not against Christianity as such. We simply don’t like blind idolatry, we don’t like lies, we don’t like those who hide behind the name of God and commit crimes.
On the photo in the booklet, there is some interesting pentagram on Dmitry’s chest - with crab legs. Apparently this is a special marine variant? :)) You somehow literally see everything, Vadim :)), it was Dmitry who invented it and made it himself. This is a kind of trification, a sign of the DEILEGIUM group, from which he came to us.
Covers of KING DIAMOND's "Into The Convent" and LED ZEPPELIN's "The Ocean" were included on the disc because of your love for these specific songs or groups in general? These songs were recorded under a contract with Hollywood Dwell Records, and were released in the albums: TRIBUTE TO KING DIAMOND: CHURCH OF THE DEVIL, TRIBUTE TO LED ZEPPELIN: DEAD ZEPPELIN, in the USA in 2000.
I think that every CIS musician will be interested to know how many bucks you paid for a perfectly executed album recording. Not so much, about 1000 US dollars.
Does the existence of a band with the same name in Germany confuse you? Not at all! )) Everyone is already used to it! Both them and us. I even corresponded with the guitarist of the German band. For a long time we didn’t even know about each other’s existence... And now even compilations are being published where there are two Postmortems at the same time and everyone understands that we're from Estonia, they're from Germany. ) And no more questions arise...
What would you wish to the readers of our magazine? Good health, good luck and love)
Best wishes You too.
