MEDIA: Interview
Bloody Justice Comes. BLACKSMITH MAGAZINE
Andy: Sergei, I understand that BLOODY JUCTICE COMES... is a collection of your old demos? Sergei: This material is not entirely from past demo tapes, it just contains our old things that we had no opportunity to record before. Besides the BLOODY JUSTICE COMES we have three more demo records... I put them together, added several self-made and live recordings from 1993-1995 years and sell them under the name PRINCE OF DARKNESS on demand.
Andy: For whom will the very bloody justice that is promised in the title of your promo come? Sergei: Bloody justice will come to everyone who interferes with our lives. And these are: lying pseudo-Christian preachers, bastards of this world, such as thugs, brainless criminals, and so on. And it will come specifically and painfully, and will hit you deathly on the head.
Andy:
Are you anti-Christians? Your thoughts on religion...
Sergei:
You understood us correctly, we are against any religious hierarchy on Earth. I don’t like the flock that blindly prays to God,
who in fact does not exist at all, in the concept in which we can imagine anything at all, as well as Satan, but I also understand
that for some lonely grannies and others, this is the only consolation, and there is no point in taking this away from them,
they have nothing else anyway. And the church was created in order to rule, launder money and take advantage of people’s craving
for something pure and bright, which does not exist on Earth, because Hell is not somewhere out there, but here it is, just look.
And death and pain, and deception, everything is there, and Paradise is there, but short-term and fleeting. But I also understand
that people did not appear here by themselves, I assume that we were brought here from other planets, and how they, in turn,
appeared there is another story.
And as for God, I will say: this is the elementary completion of the pyramid of society, reducing
it to one specific thing. That is, you have a father and mother, they, in turn, have the same thing, and so on. It narrows, narrows,
and now He is the father of all nations - God, a specific, incomprehensible person, which is what people needed. We need specificity,
even if fictitious. And Satanism is the denial of God and turning attention to oneself, that is, make yourself a god, which is what
Jesus Christ did. He’s a great guy, I respect him, he made such a mess, he deceived everyone, for which he was crucified. And his
disciples, fanatics, completed the job, stealing the body and declaring him resurrected...
But however, there is a shroud of Christ
(his or not???), with the image of a man on the cloth, and the image itself is a structure changed in some incomprehensible way
tissue, down to the molecular level. I think you've heard about this?! In principle, our reasoning about religion is based, as a
rule, on books that were also written after reading by people who may have also written them after reading the books. Everything
is relative.
Andy: The team has been around for 6 years, a decent amount of time. Tell me, how much has been achieved during this time? Sergei: What have we achieved in 6 years? I’ll say right away: for the first two years it was a party under the name POSTMORTEM, who didn’t know how (practically) and didn’t have (except an idea :-)) anything. We learned to play, earned money for instruments, prepared material... More or less, we started playing only in December 92, early 93. We recorded 4 demos on our own. There are a lot of amateur video recordings. We traveled all over Estonia, played in Latvia, and are planning to play in Lithuania...
Andy: You had a lot of problems in the group. The group even broke up a couple of times... Sergei: There were different things, sometimes they didn’t find a common language. So try to do something with these. I'm no stranger to it; in more than 6 years, POSTMORTEM fell apart three times, but I raised it from the ashes.
Andy: Maybe you’re just a dictator and the musicians didn’t tolerate this? Sergei: On the contrary, I always tried to give in so that everyone would feel good. I don’t need something like Sergei Shelepov and the POSTMORTEM group, I need a monolith, a fist in one word... It’s a pity for tons of wasted nerves, night headaches, and especially the masses of wasted time. But things haven’t stopped, everything is moving.
Andy:
Among the former republics of the USSR, the Baltic states have always stood out for the level of musical teams, why do you think?
Sergei:
Is the level of the Baltic commands higher?! This is not entirely true. And I don’t know any secrets here. I heard that even under
Soviet rule they always said that the Baltic states were a showcase of the USSR. There were always a lot of tourists here, the
supplies were better, access to the sea, a port, a border. And Vinokur, the famous humorist, said: “The Baltic states are our
Soviet foreign country.”
Those. The “occupied” lived better than the “occupiers”, so it turns out. I myself come from Kostroma
and feel the difference very well. No, I don't want to live there. Even though Russians are not particularly popular here, and
I don’t know the local language very well, but I have lived here my entire, nearly 23-year-old life, and I really love old Tallinn
and the Baltic Sea, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I am a patriot of this homeland of mine, even if it is not historical.
I know that some Russians may think that I am a traitor. When I was offered to move to Russia, I always answered - Estonia is better.
So I don’t give a damn what the ignorant rednecks, of whom there are so many now, will say there... I’ll say, I’m offended for Russia,
I’m very upset about what’s happening to it. But nevertheless, I am proud that I am RUSSIAN!!!
I really like St. Petersburg and Moscow. Red Square is power! In Kostroma, I feel like family in these ancient shopping rows, the
fire tower, old and tattered, but attractive in its own way...
Andy: How would you rate the Underground? Sergey: To understand the underground you need to live in it. In this regard, I really respect the band BOLT THROWER. I read an interview with them, they say: “We really respect and value the underground - this is the basis for the success of others, but many, having left it, never return there again.” BOLT THROWER themselves, playing on the big stage, do not forget where they come from and therefore give many concerts in underground clubs and with underground bands. I appreciate these words, and if I succeed, I will do the same.
Andy: What does the future hold for POSTMORTEM? Sergey: We have very big plans. These plans are not for free, but earned through sweat and blood and our own money. But for now we are planning to record the new album and definitely shoot a video clip for some track.
